I recently met Ermanno Federici in Milan, Italy while attending Bacterial Genetics and Ecology (BAGECO 2015). He described to me a “Wall of MO BIO” in his lab, and sure enough, true story!! Here is a little bit about what happens in his lab….thanks for sharing!!
“Our main interests is microbial ecology and, in particular, the use of culture-independent molecular methods (qPCR, PCR-DGGE, and Illumina NGS, …) to investigate environmental microbial communities and their role in ecological, biotechnological and pathological processes.”
Some of the research activities in his lab have regarded the microbiological aspects of the bioremediation of polluted soils and of the valorization of agro-industrial by-products. Currently, they have a project dealing with the characterization of bacteria in particulate matter, especially during desert dust storms, and their capacity of colonizing extreme environments such as mountain glaciers. Further work deals with the investigation of microbial communities in the gut following dietary interventions, in wastewater treatment, in water distribution systems, and in archeological samples.
“We have successfully used MO BIO DNA extraction kits in all the above mentioned laboratory activities.”
